Procedure to propose a Master Thesis (Application)

The student must present an offer for a Master's Thesis to be done by the supervision of an expert in the proposed field (Supervisor). The work must be also supervised by a teacher of the Technical University of Madrid (Academic Tutor). In case that the supervisor belongs to UPM, Supervisor and Academic Tutor are the same person.
The student must fill the Application form "Form_TFM-01" signed by the Supervisor and Academic Tutor, and it should be submitted to the Master Thesis coordinator for approval prior to starting the job

Procedure to present a Master Thesis

During the job of the Master's Thesis, the student must write a report acording to the rules that can be found in the "template and guidelines document" (see below).

Approval of the defense of the Master's Thesis. Once the work is finished, the student must present the work done to a panel as a public lecture. To do so, he/she should follow the instructions indicated in the document UPDATE 2023-2024 (see below). The defense form (Form_TFM-02) should be signed by the Student, Supervisor and Academic Tutor and sent by email to secretaria.ing-materiales.caminos@upm.es.
If there are any changes (title and contents) from the original form (Form_TFM-01), it should be clearly justified. The supervisor must fill the evaluation form (Form_TFM-03) "without any intervention by the student" and must send it to the following email address:

The documents should be presented in advance prior to the defined presentation date (see below) .

All the presented documents will be revised by the TFM Commission that will decide if the master Thesis fulfill the requirements and is suitable to be presented. At this time the student must be enrolled in the Masther Thesis subject. In case that the commission denies the approval of the defense, will inform the student and supervisor about the causes to do the necessary corrections.

UPDATE 2023-2024

Procedure of the defense of the Master Thesis The defense will take place at E.T.S.I. Caminos, Canales y Puertos. It will be a public lecture, evaluated by a panel of experts. The panel will be composed by three persons that belong to the teaching staff of UPM selected accordingly to the field of the Master Thesis. The student must present the contents, procedure and most relevant results with a discussion and conclusions. The duration time for presentation should be around 20-23 minutes, and will be followed by a questions from the panel and a discussion. If the supervisor is present at the lecture, he should not make any comments and he will not answer any question from the panel addressed to the student.

Exceptions/Remarks. In case that the student needs its title for a job or for any other situation that is clearly justified, a dedicated presentation date can be programmed.
Those persons enrolled that do not present the documentation at the above mentioned due dates will be graded as "Not Presented" and will require a new enrollment for the next academic period.
The Master Thesis must be the last subject of the studies. If the student fails a subject and needs to enroll for a new period, he must enroll for the Master Thesis again.
